How we work

Exhaust systems expertise

At MarQuip all our work is inspired by our clients. It is your high standards that drive us to be the best we can be at everything we do. Our goal is to consistently create exhaust systems that are perfectly tailored to each individual yacht and specific set of engines.

The result is unrivalled noise & vibration attenuation and the best exhaust gas cleaning available on the market today. Prepare to silently sail across the open ocean while your engine efficiently delivers power to all your onboard systems.

1. Consultation and exploration of needs

Measuring for marine exhaust system

Direct interaction between MarQuip and owner representatives in the initial stages of the process forms the foundation of the overall exhaust project. This entails an in-depth look into current application requirements and the client’s existing configuration. Based on this, we develop the overall project scope to include elements such as:

  • engine room dimensions
  • engine-to-deck height
  • combing and other obstruction clearances
  • statics & running loaded waterlines
  • current and new mufflers
  • current exhaust routing & possible modifications

Crucially, we ensure that all the available height inside the engine is being used to make the new system as safe as possible. Taken as a whole, all these components play a significant role in developing the strategy and engineering needed to make the best possible bespoke exhaust system.

2. Visual assessment (via emails & photos)

A visual assessment is a key component of the process as it allows the designer to better understand the environment in which the new exhaust system will be integrated. Since most exhaust systems are designed and fabricated away from the yacht, taking accurate measurements and providing clear & focused photos ensures that the exhaust system can be smoothly installed at the end of the project.

3. Budgetary proposal

Once the initial consultation, survey and assessment are completed, we draw up a quote for the owner which details the timing and costs associated with each element of the custom design and fabrication process. The prices and lead times are generally determined by factors such as the cost of materials and labour as well as system complexity.

4. System design & mock-up

MarQuip specialises in the development of well-designed marine exhaust systems that can stand the test of time in harsh marine environments. Time and again, we have encountered situations where poor exhaust system design yielded catastrophic results. At MarQuip, we ensure that the exhaust design is inherently safe for the entire system, from the engine exit point (the turbo outlet in most cases) all the way to where the exhaust leaves the boat.

5. Fabrication

Our exhaust systems are created with the highest-quality materials and design processes. Mock-ups of your engine room and current exhaust system are created based on the measurements you provide, and all exhaust systems are designed against that background. We have developed our own jigs and dies to ensure that our parts are head and shoulders above the competition in terms of design and fit. Our mixers are also based on our own unique concept: they outperform other designs by supplying a balanced spray pattern for superior mixing at all engine speeds and lower restrictions while increasing exhaust velocity through the mixer. This often allows for a smaller-diameter and more compact system while still meeting all exhaust back pressure requirements.

6. Delivery, post-installation review & customer feedback

Once the exhaust system is disassembled, packaged and shipped, a post-review is performed by our project engineer in person to ensure that the system installed functions as expected and that all system requirements are met.
