Emission technology

MarQuip is ahead of the game when it comes to the new IMO emissions regulations.

As a leading designer and producer of superyacht exhaust systems for both sailing and motoryachts, MarQuip is ahead of the game when it comes to the new IMO emissions regulations which came into force on 1 January 2016.

The IMO Tier III regulations require a 74% reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions compared to Tier II levels, and vessels for which the keel was laid on or after 1 January 2016 will require IMO Tier III certified engines when travelling in NOx Emission Control Areas (NECAs). These NECAs currently cover the coast of North America and the Caribbean islands that are part of the US. The IMO also decided during the 71st meeting (MEPC71) to designate the North Sea and Baltic Sea as NECAs from 1 January 2021.

To help you comply with these new regulations, MarQuip has launched the CombiClean exhaust system. This innovative solution combines a particle diesel burner, silencer/muffler for noise level compliance and, if requested, a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) unit and heat exchanger. According to many marine engine manufacturers, if conventional fuel is used, the new IMO Tier III regulations cannot be fulfilled solely through adaptations made within the engines themselves: post-treatment of exhaust gases has to provide at least part of the answer.

Noise reduction is one of MarQuip’s specialities; reducing the smells and soot coming out of the engine is another one. We can provide a wide range of solutions involving particle diesel filters and SCR systems together with our comprehensive exhaust systems. Our engineers are also at your service if you need any other emission reduction solution to be integrated within your exhaust system.

At MarQuip, we have the in-house know-how and experience to provide all the emission reduction solutions you need. Our engineers calculate filtering units as an integral part of the system, guaranteeing the performances agreed beforehand.
